Price and CPU type compared
DigitalOcean Basic Droplets use shared CPU, which suits bursty workloads. A Basic Droplet with 1 vCPU, 2 GiB RAM and 50 GiB SSD costs $12 per month, and 2 vCPU with 4 GiB costs $24. The DataPasa plans of the same size, VPS-2 and VPS-3, cost $3.54 and $7.09 per month with dedicated vCPU and 32 GB and 64 GB NVMe.
For guaranteed CPU on DigitalOcean you move to CPU-Optimized or General Purpose Droplets. CPU-Optimized with 2 vCPU and 4 GiB costs $42 per month, and General Purpose with 4 vCPU and 16 GiB costs $126. DataPasa VPS-6 has 6 dedicated vCPU, 16 GB RAM and 256 GB NVMe for $24.12 per month. Droplets offer more CPU options, DataPasa costs less.
Billing: invoiced after use vs prepaid hourly
DigitalOcean bills Droplets per second with a 60 second minimum, and bundled plans have a monthly cap, so you never pay more than the plan price. Billing cycles are monthly: on the first day of each month it invoices and charges your primary payment method for the previous month, and it may charge earlier if usage passes a threshold. You can also make a prepayment.
DataPasa works the other way round. You top up a balance from $5, the first hour is charged when you order and every following hour is charged in advance. Delete a server and charging stops. When the balance drops below 30% of the monthly cost of your servers you get an email, and there is never a bill for past usage.
Payment methods and sign-up
DigitalOcean accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, UnionPay, Diners Club and JCB, plus PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Alipay, Link and ACH for qualifying US customers. It does not accept virtual or prepaid cards. You need a payment method before you create resources, and DigitalOcean says it uses payment information to verify your identity. Stablecoin payments exist but are limited to some customers and locations.
DataPasa takes cards through Stripe, including Apple Pay and Google Pay, and crypto through Cryptomus: USDT on eight networks, USDC on five, BTC, ETH, XMR, LTC, SOL and many tokens. Sign-up needs only an email. Crypto deposits are screened for sanctions and illicit sources, and a flagged deposit may be held until we verify identity. Unused balance can be refunded.
